The story
Why Unfiltered exists
I've spent thirty years watching technology reshape business, from the early days of data centres, dark fibre and satellite infrastructure, through the rise of the internet, and now into the age of AI.
One thing never changed: the gap between what technology can do and what most businesses actually experience. The promise is enormous. The delivery, far too often, falls short. The technology works. The human side is usually the afterthought.
I started Unfiltered London because I was tired of watching businesses invest in AI and get very little back. Not because the tools don't work. Because nobody was speaking to them plainly, understanding their business first, building trust, and then building a plan that actually fits.
The businesses I've worked with that have taken training and gone through an assessment, and their businesses have transformed. They go from confused to operating in a state of awe at what's suddenly possible. I still find that surprising, every time.
Published author
A book about AI, made with AI.
Frankenstein's Children: Fears, Myths, Ethics and Bias in the Age of AI didn't start at a desk. It started in a car, with a voice recorder running.
Over several months, Dez recorded thoughts, observations and occasional rants into a voice memo app. Those recordings were shared with an AI, which helped shape the language, removed the false starts and suggested structures that let the arguments breathe.
The thinking was always Dez's. The AI helped sharpen it. That's not a weakness in the book. It's the book demonstrating its own argument.
How the book was made
"This book began in my car. Not at my desk. Not in a study. In my car, trying to get somewhere, thinking too loud, with a voice recorder running. The AI read everything I had said, identified the ideas worth developing, helped shape the language. There was a constant back and forth. Sometimes we argued. I said: that doesn't sound like me. Put the roughness back. Sarah would always respond positively, argue gently, then accept my point of view."
— From the author's note, Frankenstein's Children
How I work
Four principles that don't change regardless of the client.
01
Understand before advising
I never arrive with a solution already in hand. I spend time understanding how your business actually works before I suggest anything. The answer has to fit your reality, not a template.
02
Honest over comfortable
If I think you're heading in the wrong direction, I'll tell you plainly, without apology. You're not paying for someone to agree with you. You're paying for someone who'll tell you what you need to hear.
03
Practical, not theoretical
The goal is always something that works in your business, with your people, from next week. Not a roadmap that sits in a drawer.
04
Human first, technology second
AI doesn't transform businesses. People do, when they understand the tools and feel confident using them. Everything we do starts and ends with your team.
Let's talk about your business.
